A thirteen-lined ground squirrel takes a quick look around while foraging for clover this week at Joyce Park. These little guys live in colonies like prairie dogs, barking warnings to each other about hawks, coyotes or kids chasing soccer balls nearby. They are itty bitty. And awesome. One of my fav Ohio animals.
A baby ground squirrel can barely see over the clover flowers as it gets buzzed by a bee. I saw a feral cat hunting the little one and intervened, but the cat will be back.
