Fun in the Sun

 

I accompanied UC's Physics Department to Shelbyville, Indiana, to witness a total solar eclipse. I captured totality and added some color for effect. It was completely surreal.



I didn't expect the corona to be so powerful around the moon. You could almost hear it as it fired in all directions around the dark orb blocking it. And I didn't expect darkness to fall so quickly. Wowza!



My friend Mike said this one reminds him of the poster for Alien, which is funny because that's what I was going for, ha.



My 600 lens does a decent job with moon photography and my pics might even have been good if they weren't sorely overexposed. The corona was crazy bright. Still, the overexposed corona looks as powerful in the photo as it did to me on Monday.
