Animals Up Close

 


Is this a sandworm from Dune? This creature's appendage works like a multitool, in this case snatching up fresh grass. What animal am I?












Did you get it? Easy. It's an elephant. Elephant trunks are amazing. They are sensitive enough to pluck a single peanut off the ground but strong enough to rend acacia branches from their trunks. They work like a snorkel to help elephants breathe underwater and can suck up two gallons of water at a time to pump into their mouths when they drink. And they give the elephant an extraordinary sense of smell that allows them to detect distant waterholes.
